Travel by What Fascinates You Most

Our collections gather the tours by subject, so you can browse by interest. Follow archaeology from the painted caves of prehistory through Greece and Rome to the Viking homelands. Walk the great gardens of Britain and the world, and time a holiday around Chelsea, Malvern or the Menton Lemon Festival. Step into history through castles, abbeys, royal palaces and the country houses that came after them. Or look up on an astronomy tour, out on a wildlife tour, or back at the golden age of travel from a steam train.

Whichever you choose, the expertise is the same. Our Guide Lecturers are archaeologists, Egyptologists, historians, horticulturalists and specialists in their fields, and they travel with the group throughout, building up a picture across the holiday rather than appearing at each site and leaving.

You don't just see a site like this — you learn to read it. Once you know where to look, every broken wall is still telling you something.

Tour Collections: Your Questions Answered

By subject. The larger collections have sections within them; for example, archaeology divides into prehistory, early civilisations, the ancient and classical world, and the Viking and medieval centuries.

A collection is a group of tours categorised by topic, whereas destinations are categorised by location. They are two routes into the same range, so you can start from either.

Guide Lecturers and Tour Managers who are specialists in the subject rather than general guides, many of whom research, excavate or work in the very places you are visiting. That is what gives these tours their depth.

Whichever subject you would happily read a book about. Our tours suit everyone from the merely curious to scholars and academics, and all that's needed is an interest.
